Podcast 3

PHEW! Finally a podcast production that went SWIMMINGLY! After the last two podcasts I was becoming very frustrated with this process, but now I have a renewed faith in my ability to learn! Okay, it wasn't that serious, but I was definitely less than thrilled with my ability to create a podcast. This podcast went well from taping the footage, which was done in less than two hours (for three people), to uploading and editing. I am more comfortable using iMovie and I am enjoying editing the footage and actually creating a video that makes sense.

With less than two full hours in the lab editing I was happy to head home last night with a completed project.

For the last one I want to work on the camera view, I think having a more narrow shot would be more beneficial to the audience. I also want to work on keeping the tempo upbeat and keeping the audience entertained.

Ashley--

Your introduction was different. I liked that you walked up the stairs. I think it set the tone for your podcast and catches people's attention.

I also liked the music for each of your title slides. Again, it set the tone for your discussion. The one thing I did notice was that the music faded in a little bit early in one of the segments.

I also liked your use of slides with talking points on them. The timing was really good and matched what you were saying. My one suggestion would be not to have the slides with a lot of content on them zoom in. They move pretty quickly and it's hard to read everything that you've included. I have had the same problem when I've use PowerPoint slides. If you figure out how to fix it...let me know.

My one other suggestion is your talking pace is a little bit quick sometimes. That's all.

I'm interested to hear your last podcast. I like agenda setting theory; I think it explains a lot.

Snappy music! Try to keep the subject framed on the thirds, you needed to be to the left. There’s a spot early on with a ripple transition that seems a bit out of place, I think you are trying to cover a jump cut. The flash transition would have made it a bit smoother. If you have a slide/title that you use to mark topic transitions, you should keep it for major transitions, rather than smaller changes such as the “results” in the first section. You need to turn off the Ken Burns effect, though you probably already know that—it can get a bit flaky depending on how you brought the image in. You’ve also got some black space at the beginning the slides on Agenda Setting. The music comes back in around 3:15 or so, I’m not sure why it is showing up then. You’ve got some extra black at 5:30. The location worked out much better than last time. Audio sounded great.

Ashley,
I liked that your included some movement in your podcast with you walking up the stairs! I must say that my podcasts are far too boring for me to move around haha. Also, I liked your use of music on the title slides, but you might want to back in and see why the music faded back up randomly.

I liked that you included slides with your talking points laid out in an easy format to follow. The zooming thing is an easy fix and was understandable since iMovie thinks that every picture should be subject to the Ken Burns effect.

Overall, I think you did a great job with this podcast!

Ashley!

This podcast had a lot of new improvements and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The music was a great addition. It was peppy and added a lot to the boringness that theories tend to thrive on. Your titles were really good - and the consistency was nice.

When considering some of the things that you could work on I would definately take off that Ken Burns effect that zoomed in your slides. You miss part of the words, but I'm sure that you have already noticed that. Also, there was one section where your music continued to play through your talking part. Other than that there were only a few minor errors on your slides (one misspelled word and a couple of blank slides).

You did a great job of improving this podcast from the last couple! I look forward to more good work.

Ashley,
Different approach to start looks good. I think it’s good idea to show different angles. The frame and the background setting look good. The audio sounds good too.

During the podcast, I heard some audio pause and video black blank. I think that might be from the time when you put the titles. I think it was on your second part to explain the two step flow. The background music was started. It was different format when you explaining the agenda setting. I just wonder…it seems like for the title music. On your slide, with Ken Burn’s effect, it was a little bit hard to read the whole sentence. It was too fast to read. There was a one blank slide on the last part. But every slide shows at your point. For me, it was really hard to match slide and my speed. However, you did great!

This podcast is well-organized. Good job! I was expected footage on this podcast too. But you didn’t put it on. Maybe next time? :)
